Army Combat Uniform (ACU)

The Operational Camouflage Pattern (OCP) was first released for sale in 2015, replacing the Army Combat Uniform's (ACU) Universal Camouflage Pattern (UCP), which had last been updated in 2005.

"The Operational Camouflage Pattern was selected following the most comprehensive uniform camouflage testing effort ever undertaken by the Army, reflecting the Army's paramount commitment to force protection," according to an Army release.

Compared to the UCP, the OCP includes several key changes, the Army noted in the release.

"In addition to the camouflage change, the Operational Camouflage Pattern ACUs will incorporate minor design changes," the 2015 release said. "These include redesigned shoulder sleeve pockets with a zipper opening, no trouser drawstring, a button on the lower calf pocket, two pen pockets on the sleeve instead of three, and the elimination of the elbow and knee patch hook and loop."

The OCP pattern is also used by the Air Force and the Space Force.
